Privacy Policy — tafakkur

tafakkur is a devotional prayer-reminder app. It is built to be private by design: there is no account, no login, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. This policy explains, plainly, the only data the app uses.

The short version

• The only information that ever leaves your device is your approximate location (about 1 km accuracy), which is sent to a third-party prayer-times service (Aladhan) to calculate your five daily prayer times.
• Everything else — your name, your settings, your prayer-time history — stays only on your device.
• We do not run any server, we have no database of users, and we never see or store your payment details (purchases are handled entirely by Apple).
• We do not collect your name, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, health data, or any advertising identifier. We do not track you.

What the app uses, in detail

1. Approximate location — sent to Aladhan to calculate prayer times

When you allow location access (or choose a city manually), the app uses your coordinates to look up your prayer times. To do this it sends your latitude and longitude (captured at roughly 1 km accuracy) together with your calculation preferences (calculation method, madhab, high-latitude rule) to the Aladhan API (api.aladhan.com), a free prayer-times service operated by The Islamic Network.

• Location access is requested only while you are using the app ("when in use").
• Your coordinates are also cached on your device so the app works offline.
• We do not attach your name, an account, or any identifier to these requests.

If you deny location, you can enter a city instead, or the app falls back to a default location — you can change this any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

2. Your name — stored only on your device

The name you enter during setup is used to personalise the on-screen messages and your local prayer notifications. It is stored only on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.

3. Notifications — created only on your device

Prayer reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. There are no push notifications and no server is involved. The app plays only the standard system notification sound (which you can turn off); it never plays the adhan or any audio.

4. Subscriptions and purchases — handled by Apple

Subscriptions and the one-time purchase are processed by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). The app never sees or stores your payment information. The only purchase-related data stored on your device is the date your free trial began, used to manage the trial locally. Your purchase entitlement is tied to your Apple ID by Apple. What we do NOT collect

• No account, email, phone number, or password (there is no sign-in).
• No contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or health data.
• No advertising identifier (IDFA), and no tracking across apps or websites.
• No analytics, crash-reporting, or third-party SDKs of any kind.
• No selling or sharing of your data — we have nothing to sell.

Third parties involved

• Aladhan (api.aladhan.com) — receives your approximate coordinates and calculation settings to return prayer times. No identity attached.
• Apple — distributes the app and processes purchases via the App Store.

No other third party receives any data from the app.

Data retention and your control

• Data stored on your device (name, settings, cached prayer times, trial date) remains until you delete the app, which removes it all.
• Requests to Aladhan are transient lookups; we do not keep a copy.
• You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy → Location Services → tafakkur, and turn notifications off in the app or in Settings.

Children

tafakkur is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It contains no data collection directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the effective date.
